Dwyer & Collora, LLP is committed to the provision of legal representation to individuals of limited means and to organizations serving traditionally underrepresented groups. All of our attorneys are strongly encouraged to undertake pro bono work, and the firm has an annual target of providing twice the number of pro bono hours that are recommended by the Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct. Consistent with its status as a law firm specializing in litigation, Dwyer & Collora LLP’s pro bono program focuses on the provision of representation of individuals and organizations in connection with active litigation matters, thereby ensuring that the firm’s pro bono efforts have the maximum potential impact for its clients.
Since 2004, Dwyer & Collora, LLP has been a participant in the ABA Death Penalty Representation Project. The firm, one of the smallest law firms that has participated in the ABA Project, currently represents an individual on death row in the State of Connecticut.
Dwyer & Collora, LLP has also joined with the Women’s Bar Foundation (WBF) of Massachusetts, the charitable and educational affilliate of the Massachusetts Women’s Bar Association (WBA), to provide legal services to indigent clients through the WBF’s Framingham Project for Incarcerated Women. All firm associates are assigned cases through the Framingham Project on a rotating basis. In these assignments, associates are typically required to appear in the Massachusetts state courts and, where appropriate, to negotiate with state prosecutors in connection with the clearing of outstanding criminal warrants for incarcerated women.
In 2006, Dwyer & Collora, LLP received a Pro Bono Award from the WBF and the WBA in recognition of its enthusiastic commitment and participation in connection with its work on the Framingham Project.
Dwyer & Collora, LLP also provides regular pro bono externships for its associates. In recent years, associates have been sent to work for six month periods to serve as staff attorneys with the Office of the Federal Defender for the District of Massachusetts, in various Massachusetts District Attorneys’ Offices, and with other non-profit and/or public interest organizations.
