“A great lawyer not only fights for her client, she also serves as her client’s guide through the legal system. She helps her client understand the relevant law and she carefully explains strategies for success.”

Ingrid Martin is an experienced criminal defense attorney and litigator. She focuses her practice on the intersection between criminal defense and health care law. She routinely handles all types of government investigations that medical professionals and medical companies may face, including federal investigations by the United States Department of Justice, the Food and Drug Administration, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Office of the Inspector General of Health & Human Services, as well as state investigations by the Attorney General and the Board of Registration in Medicine. She assists clients with licensing and accreditation issues as well as private, peer review matters initiated by hospitals or insurance companies. Through this experience, she understands how a seemingly minor infraction can carry serious collateral consequences for licenses, accreditation, and the ability to participate in federal health care programs. She has also successfully represented her clients in federal and state court, both at the trial level and on appeal.

Prior to joining Dwyer & Collora in 2007, Ms. Martin worked at Clements & Clements LLP, and she served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Corruption, Fraud & Computer Crime Division.

Recent Cases:

  • Represented pharmaceutical company employees in connection with a kickback investigation brought by the United States Department of Justice.
  • Represented physician in investigation by Health & Human Services and the Department of Justice into the propriety of his Medicare billing practices.
  • Brought a state court challenge against a subpoena from the Board of Registration in Medicine issued to a psychiatrist for privileged patient records; the matter is pending before the Supreme Judicial Court.
  • Obtained dismissal of multi-count indictment against chiropractor wrongfully charged with insurance fraud by the Massachusetts Attorney General.
  • Helped provide defense for medical device company in a breach of contract suit brought by former executives.
