Michael B. Galvin is a partner at Dwyer & Collora, LLP who concentrates his practice on complex civil business litigation and criminal matters.
Mr. Galvin was recently recognized by Boston Magazine as a rising star among Massachusetts criminal defense practitioners. He represents individuals and entities in all phases of criminal and civil litigation including grand jury and agency investigations, civil and criminal discovery, trial preparations, trials, post-conviction litigation, sentencing and appeals. His work involves a wide array of federal and state subject areas including health care, federal and state false claims, bank and securities fraud, kickbacks, tax evasion, campaign finance violations, public corruption, RICO, antitrust, perjury and obstruction of justice.
Mr. Galvin has represented individuals and entities inquiries and investigations before securities agencies, including the United States SEC, Massachusetts Securities Division and FINRA.
Mr. Galvin has represented students involved in disciplinary matters at universities, colleges and schools. He also has defended medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists and chiropractors involved in criminal and ethical inquiries. He has represented individuals in a wide array of state criminal charges.
In 2006, he served as a Special Assistant District Attorney assigned to trial sessions in Plymouth County, where he handled over 50 trials, including over 25 jury trials in state district court and litigated numerous pretrial motions.

Recent Cases:
- Represented internal legal counsel and senior officer at public company involved in federal and state criminal environmental investigations and related claim for indemnification of fees; obtained favorable settlement.
- United States ex rel. Ondis v. City of Woonsocket, R.I, et al., 582 F. Supp. 2d 212 (D.R.I. 2008) (represented municipality, mayor and city officials in civil False Claims Act action involving city's use of federal housing funds; lawsuit repeatedly dismissed at Rule 12 stage.)
- Defended joint venturer in major federal and state investigations stemming from Central Artery Project (the "Big Dig").
- Lead trial counsel in jury trial involving ownership dispute at large telecommunications company (after favorable jury verdict, case quickly settled).
- Represented outside directors of hedge funds in inquiries by Massachusetts State Securities division.
- In re Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly, No. 06-0612-H (Suffolk Sup. Ct.) (represented international contractor which was subject of state investigation for False Claims Act liability; in issue of first impression in Massachusetts, obtained order quashing extraterritorial subpoena).
- United States v. Sperbeck, No. 96-cv- 10835-MLW (D. MA) (lead trial counsel on two-week jury trial involving allegations of defense contractor’s false claims to DOT; negotiated favorable settlement of claims).
- United States v. North Carolina’s Original Copy of the Bill of Rights, Civil Action No. 5:03-CV-204-BO (E.D.N.C.) (represented major antiques dealer involved alleged interstate transportation of stolen copy of the Bill of Rights; negotiated favorable resolution of allegations).
- United States v. Prigmore, 243 F.3d 1 (1st Cir. 2001) (represented executive of medical device manufacturer charged with defrauding the FDA; conviction reversed; negotiated plea to misdemeanor).
- United States v. Nippon Paper Indus. Co. Ltd., 62 F. Supp.2d 173 (D. MA 1999) (represented Japanese company charged with criminal price-fixing; court acquitted defendant after six week jury trial).
